Holiday Party Planning Done Right
As we approach the vacation season, usually awash with holiday parties, it got me thinking about how staff are rewarded. Actually one of the chief reasons for hosting a company holiday party is to reward workers for their difficult work and dedication, and there may be financial reasons as well.  ;
a vacation party does something else too. It creates a space for workers and management to come together not as employees, but as mates. It provides an opportunity for people to get together and experience the company of the people you’re employed with without being worried about the bottom line, which is something that won’t happen much throughout the year. Sure there may be financial benefits ( see the article linked above ), but this is primarily done by making a touch of goodwill that goes a long way. It lets your employees know that you place a value on them and their work. So when I see that companies are deciding against doing a party thanks to the economy I worry about the message that this sends to  ; workers, plenty of whom possibly anticipate and expect some kind of year end celebration. When times are difficult, which undoubtedly is the case in several industries, it’s especially necessary to show staff you care.
If you usually do a lavish party, naturally it’s comprehensible that you’d cut back a touch, but do not do away with the party altogether. Do it smaller, easier and smarter. You can change the scale without destroying the event. If you normally hire a celebrity comic, for instance, think about employing talent locally. If you typically do a lavish meal, do a buffet, or maybe a potluck. My point is do something. If you can afford to use vacation party entertainment, I’d definitely commend it. Using a corporate comic is a great way to get people’s’s minds off the economy for 45-60 mins and it gives your visitors a common experience to chat ( and joke ) about for approaching months and leaves everyone feeling better ( just in time for the holidays ).
